Men's Soccer Wins Fourth Straight as they Outlast Phoenix

ROCHESTER Mich. - The Oakland Golden Grizzlies triumphed over the Green Bay Phoenix 1-0 on a cold day at the Oakland Soccer Field.

Green Bay had the first chance five minutes into this one as Nishikawa had a shot that was saved by Oakland goalie Alex Flowers to deny the first opportunity.

The Phoenix later had a free kick to get on the board first, however the Golden Grizzlies were able to shut down the opportunity again as Alex Flowers saved the opportunity at the 21 minute mark.

Quickly after Green Bay's opportunity it was Oakland's turn as the Golden Grizzlies had an open chance as Jack Klomparens had a shot that was denied by Green Bay's goalie Alvaro Rodriguez.

The Golden Grizzlies had one more opportunity before halftime where the Golden Grizzlies had a corner kick to give them the lead, however Green Bay's defense stood tall to once again deny Oakland's chance at minute 40.

At halftime the score remained 0-0 as each team had chances but the defenses answered.

Stats as a whole were very evenly distributed as Oakland led in shots (8-to-5), and shots on goal (3-to-2), Green Bay led in saves (3-to-2), and both teams were even in corners (2-to-2).

Despite the numbers, Oakland dominated possession in the opening half, setting the table for what could be a successful second half.

The message after halftime certainly got to the Golden Grizzlies who scored immediately as the second half started as Jayden Pinherio scored off of a free kick assist from Carson Ballagh to give the Golden Grizzlies the early 1-0 lead at minute 46.

Green Bay had another free kick opportunity at the 56 minute mark, however it was Oakland whose defense remained great as the Golden Grizzlies blocked Jesus Galvan-Garcia's shot to hold Oakland's 1-0 lead.

The Phoenix had another opportunity as they drove to the net and fired the ball to the goal, but Alex Flowers saved the day again for his third and final save of the day as he denied Oscar Bjornskov's chance of a game tying goal, shutting the door on the Phoenix.

The Golden Grizzlies finished on top in shots on goal (5-to-3), including five shots (three on goal) to lead all players by Klomparens.

The Golden Grizzlies will look to add onto their four game winning streak, as they finish the regular season on Tuesday, Nov. 5 at 2 p.m. when Oakland heads to Detroit Mercy for a Metro Series rivalry matchup.
