Women's Soccer Falls to IU Indy in Final Road Match

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Golden Grizzlies put forth a determined offensive effort but ultimately fell 3-0 to IU Indy on Saturday at Carroll Stadium.

IU Indy established its lead just 19 seconds into the match when defender Maia Ransom broke through Oakland's back line for an unassisted goal. The Jaguars struck again in the 11th minute, with Ransom finding the net for her second goal after a well-executed drive through Oakland's defense.

IU Indy's offense continued to apply pressure, and in the 17th minute, Lindsey Castillo extended the lead to 3-0, assisted by midfielder Emma Frey. The Golden Grizzlies, now facing a steep deficit, rallied with an offensive push. Midfielder Shannon Brown was quick to respond, sending Oakland's first shot in the 13th minute just wide of the goal. Minutes later, forward Marina Downing followed up with a close-range attempt that was saved by Jaguars goalkeeper Ashton Kudlo, one of her three first-half saves.

Midfielder Thai Quallich and substitute Frankie Mudd also added to the pressure, each firing on goal in the closing minutes of the half. Mudd delivered two more shots on target in quick succession, forcing Kudlo into back-to-back saves in the 42nd and 44th minutes. Despite the surge, Oakland entered halftime down 3-0, with seven shots to IU Indy's 11.

Oakland continued its offensive drive into the second half, showing resilience in the face of IU Indy's early lead. Brown stayed active, sending a high shot in the 49th minute and later forcing a save from IU Indy's substitute goalkeeper Emily Keck at the 83rd minute. Quallich added another strike in the 71st minute, testing Keck, who remained vigilant in goal.

Defender Gabby Ruffino and forward Melaina Troy each added shots of their own, contributing to Oakland's nine second-half shots. Mudd, who led the team in shots on target, came close again with a hard-driven attempt in the 87th minute, requiring Keck's diving save to keep IU Indy's shutout intact.

Despite the final score, Oakland's offense showed determination, outshooting IU Indy 9-8 in the second half and finishing with 16 shots total, six on target. Lauren Perry, Oakland's goalkeeper, recorded five saves, while IU Indy's goalkeepers Kudlo and Keck combined for six saves in a strong defensive showing for the Jaguars. Oakland also held an advantage in corner kicks, 5-4, and showed discipline with only four fouls compared to IU Indy's seven.

With the loss, Oakland drops to 3-13-2 (2-7-0 in conference), while IU Indy improves to 5-9-3 (4-3-2). The Golden Grizzlies will aim to bring this offensive momentum into their next matchup as they close out the season with a big test against cross-town rival Detroit Mercy at the Oakland Soccer Field on Oct. 30 at 7 p.m.
