ROCHESTER, Mich. - After having spent its last two weekends on the road, the Golden Grizzlies volleyball team returns to the OU Credit Union O'rena for a trio of games, as it hosts IU Indy this weekend, followed by a midweek game Tuesday (Oct. 29) against Cleveland State.
Oakland and Green Bay battled in a highly competitive weekend series this past weekend, but ultimately, Oakland fell in both matches. Friday, in the opening set of the opening match, Oakland fell behind early due to attack errors but closed the gap before Green Bay sealed a 25-18 victory. Oakland responded in the second set with a strong performance, winning 25-19 thanks to key kills from
Rachel Rossman,
Sydney Green and
Tyler Linkhart. However, Green Bay regained control in the third set, capitalizing on Oakland's errors and closing out with a 25-18 win. The fourth set saw Oakland struggle to maintain momentum despite early efforts from
Olivia Rust and
Ainsley Guse, as Green Bay finished the match with a 25-18 victory.
In the second match of the weekend, Oakland once again lost the first set 25-15 despite moments of promise, with
Libby Smith and Green making key contributions. Oakland bounced back in the second set, securing a thrilling 28-26 win after fending off a set point. The third set saw Oakland fall 25-14 after struggling to contain Green Bay's strong serving, and despite battling hard in the fourth, Oakland ultimately lost, 25-19. Green led Oakland with 12 kills, supported by Smith's 10, while
Emily Wichmann anchored the defense with 18 digs.

The Golden Grizzlies look to avenge its loss against the Vikings from earlier this season as it fell, 3-1, on the road in the beginning of October. In the first set, Cleveland State established an early lead, eventually winning 25-18. Oakland bounced back in the second set, gaining control with a strong run and closing it out 25-22. The third set was tightly contested, with both teams trading points until Cleveland State edged out a 25-23 win. In the final set, Oakland initially led, but Cleveland State rallied, ultimately winning 25-21 to secure the match. Linkhart led Oakland with 10 kills, while Wichmann recorded 28 digs.
Liberty Torres leads the Vikings with 283 kills, good for 3.82 kills per set, and swings at a .220 rate. With a team total of 961, Nia Hall is behind her with 219 kills and hits at a .196 clip.
