Basketball Falls to Wolverines in Exhibition, 92-48

DETROIT, Mich. - The Golden Grizzlies fell to the Michigan Wolverines, 92-48, this afternoon in its first exhibition game, benefiting Forgotten Harvest, inside Little Caesars Arena.
 
The Golden Grizzlies were led by graduate transfer Jayson Woodrich who tallied 18 points for Oakland and made a pair of shots from range. DQ Cole led off the glass with his nine boards, as Allen Mukeba went 5-of-8 from the field to account for his 11 points.
 
The Wolverines saw Will Tschetter lead the team in points with 15, going 6-of-8 from the field. Danny Wolf led Michigan in the rebound category and recorded the sole double-double of the game by either side with his 11 points added on.
 
After a few possessions from both sides, the Wolverines eventually got the scoring started with a quick four points, but Cole drained a mid-range jumper for the team's first points. The Wolverines eventually built its lead to five before Woodrich drilled the first shot from range by either side to make it 7-5 five minutes in. Woodrich kept it rolling as he scored the teams next five points while adding another three.
 
Michigan went on a quick 8-0 run and built its lead to 12, but Buru Naivalurua ended the run with a slam to make it 24-14 with 10:27 to go in the half. The Wolverines kept ahead as its lead grew to 14 with a quarter of the half left to play, but Woodrich once again ended a Michigan 8-0 run with a driving layup. However, the Wolverines kept up the momentum and went up 22 heading into the break.
 
The Wolverines led from the field, as it shot at a .600 clip while the Golden Grizzlies hit at a .320 mark. Oakland made two of its shots from range, as 24 of Michigan's 48 points came from three with its eight from range. At the glass, The Wolverines outpaced the Golden Grizzlies by seven rebounds, at 19-12.
 
The Wolverines kept up with its 20+ point lead as the Golden Grizzlies found itself down as much as 25 early on. Shots from Allen Mukeba, Cole and Woodrich kept the teams deficit from growing any larger as the score read 53-32 with 15:33 to go. Play continued on as the Wolverines kept its leads and went ahead, 70-40, with 8:50 to play.
 
Oakland attempted to make a comeback, but the lead was too large for the Golden Grizzlies as it eventually fell, 92-48.
 
Oakland shot .229 from the floor in the second half and went 16-of-60 for the entirety of the game to shoot at a .267 mark. The Golden Grizzlies made just a pair of three in the game, both by Woodrich. Off the glass, the Golden Grizzlies were outrebounded, 52-33, as Michigan brought down 14 offensive boards. The Wolverines shot at a .410 clip from the floor in the second half to account for its .493 mark for the game, as it made 15 shots from three.
 
The Golden Grizzlies wrap up its preseason as it heads to Rochester Christian Friday (Oct. 25) to face off against the Warriors. Tip-off from Garth Pleasant Arena is slated for 7:00 p.m. ET.
