CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Oakland Swimming and Diving teams got valuable experience at Cincinnati to help towards Horizon League competition Friday afternoon.
The Golden Grizzlies fall to the Bearcats in an intense competition Friday afternoon. In preparation for Horizon League, as well as postseason opportunities, the Big XII opponent provided an opportunity to challenge the Golden Grizzlies early this fall.Â
To kick competition off,
Ellie Chalifoux secured two first place finishes on the 1-meter and 3-meter dives, with scores of 286.60 and 263.45, respectively. Karel Subagyo continued to shine with a first place finish in the 1000 yard freestyle (9:27.25).
Harry Nicholson secured first place in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 49.73. In the men's 100 yard breaststroke, the Golden Grizzlies earned second,
Christopher Palvadre (55.64), and third, Alex Larkin (56.63). The men's 200 yard butterfly showcased a first place finish by
Auben Nugent (1:53.84). The men's 100 yard freestyle also had two Golden Grizzlies finish top three, where Charlie Brown finished second, and
Micah Scheffer finished third.Â
Kelley Hassett (5:05.08) and
Erika Pietras (5:08.60) earned second and third place in the women's 500 yard freestyle. In the men's 500 yard freestyle, Karel Subagyo secured first (4:33.23) once again, with
Jonas Cantrell right behind in second (4:35.74). The men's 100 yard butterfly showcased three Golden Grizzlies at the top:
Max Haney (50.24),
Archer Jankoviak (50.52), and
Auben Nugent (50.81).
Jack Wike took second in the men's 400 yard individual medley posting 4:04.54 for the Gold and Black.
The Golden Grizzlies aim to take this valuable experience and grow. With a lot of season left to play, the Golden Grizzlies are just getting started. They head to Ann Arbor on November 8th to take on the Wolverines.Â
