Women's Soccer Looks to Bolster Conference Position as they Host Wright State

ROCHESTER, Mich. - After being on the road for the past three games, the Golden Grizzlies return home and are ready to take on the Wright State Raiders on Sunday, Oct. 13, 2024 at the Oakland Soccer field in Rochester, Michigan at 1 p.m.

This game could be a big one coming down the final stretch of the season as Oakland sits in sixth place in the conference, tied with Youngstown State and Purdue Fort Wayne with six conference points. A win for Oakland could hand them sole possession of that place, and move them within one point of moving as far up as fourth place.

Oakland junior Forward Frankie Mudd continues to lead the charge on the attack for the Golden Grizzlies, leading the Horizon League in shots (41) and ranking second in shots on goal (16), so she will not be afraid to take advantage of an opportunity for a goal, while Sophomore Goalie Julia Zangerl has 57 saves, 4th most in the Horizon League and has the third lowest goals against average (1.513) in the league.

Despite a 7-5-1 record all-time against the Raiders and a favorable 3-1 home record in the series, Oakland is on a redemption hunt after last year's 0-1 loss against Wright State, which snapped a three game head-to-head winning streak for Oakland.

The Raiders have had a rough first half of the season, sitting second to last in conference standings with a 1-3-1 league record. They have lost three of their last four matches, including a 3-4 loss to Detroit Mercy on Thursday.

Wright State's Freshman Forward Olivia Stroud is ninth in the Horizon League in goals with four on the season.

The Golden Grizzlies will also be celebrating senior night, as Putri Sazali, Lorelai Miller, and Sara Ivandic will be honored after the game.
