LATE GOAL BY ALLIE TEFEND GIVES OAKLAND FIRST CONFERENCE WIN OF THE YEAR

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Allie Tefend netted her first goal as a Golden Grizzly in the 89th minute of Sunday's match against Cleveland State to lift the Oakland Women's Soccer Team to a 1-0 win over the Vikings.

After 89 minutes of deadlocked at zero, Tefend's opportunity came off a rebound from a Macey Wierenga corner kick. The Lake Orion, Mich. native squared up beautifully right above the penalty arc finding the back of the net at 88:39.

The senior defender scored on just her first shot attempt of the year, giving Oakland the 1-0 advantage late in the game.

With less than a minute remaining Julia Zangerl came up with a huge save to keep the lead in the Golden Grizzlies' favor. The freshman ended the day with four saves.

Sunday's win over Cleveland State (3-7-1, 0-3-1 HL) marked her first Horizon League win of the season, handing the Vikings their second-straight loss.

Oakland (3-4-4, 1-0-2 HL) will continue its road swing Saturday, Sept. 30 at Wright State at 1 p.m.
