ROCHESTER, Mich. - Their first home Horizon League match of the 2023 season, the Golden Grizzlies were defeated in four sets by the Youngstown State Penguins on Friday, September 22 at the OU Credit Union O'rena.
With this result, Oakland is now 7-7 on the season and 1-1 in Horizon League play, while the Penguins improve to 6-7 and are also 1-1 in the conference.
Youngstown State won each of the first two sets by 25-20 scores and the Golden Grizzlies took the third, 25-19, before the Penguins won the match with a 25-21 decision in the fourth set.
Raising her career total to 1,040, Oakland senior Patti Cesarini led all players with 17 kills and freshman Gentry Brown finished with 10.
Graduate student Sarah Turner had 25 assists with sophomore Rachel Rossman chipping in 13 and Cesarini tallied a team-high 14 digs, one more than junior libero Emily Wichmann.
Canfield, Ohio sophomore Abbie Householder paced Youngstown State with 13 kills, closely followed by Columbian junior Jazmin Vergara with 12. Fifth-year senior Isidora Sisic, a native of Serbia, recorded a game-best 18 digs for the Penguins.

Returning right back to action, the Golden Grizzlies will quickly have an opportunity to return to the win column when they host the Robert Morris Colonials (4-9, 1-1 Horizon League) on Saturday, September 23 at 4 p.m.
