INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Coming off a thrilling 2-1 victory over the Michigan Wolverines on September 19, the Oakland Golden Grizzlies will return to Horizon League play by squaring off with the IUPUI Jaguars on Saturday, September 23 at 1 p.m. at Michael A. Carroll Stadium on ESPN+ ($).
Opening conference action with a 3-0 victory over the Cleveland State Vikings on September 9 before falling to the Northern Kentucky Norse by the same score a week later, the Golden Grizzlies will bring a 2-4-1 record with them to Indianapolis, while the Jaguars are 3-3-1 and 2-0 in the Horizon League, picking up wins over the Wright State Raiders and Robert Morris Colonials.
Tallying the match-winner in the 85th minute against the Wolverines, freshman Donavan Phillip leads Oakland with seven points in 2023. Graduate student and team captain Mikey Ketteman has four and junior Luke Benford and redshirt senior Owen Smith both have three.
Graduate student Finn Jurak has earned both of the Golden Grizzlies' wins in goal, recording 18 saves and a shutout in his four starts.
IUPUI RUNDOWN
In their second season under head coach Sid van Druenen, the Jaguars were picked to finish second in the Horizon League Preseason Poll, one spot ahead of Oakland.
Senior Swede Lukas Hackaa paces IUPUI with five points (two goals and an assist), while Wheaton, Illinois' Logan Finnegan, a fellow senior, and hometown sophomore Josemir Gomez both have four.
Fenton, Missouri graduate student Lucas Morefield has started six of the club's seven matches in goal, working to a 3-3 record while posting 14 saves and two blank sheets.
IUPUI won the only meeting between these two schools a year ago, but the Golden Grizzlies own a comfortable 18-7-1 edge in the all-time series, which dates to 1998.
