ROCHESTER, Mich. – Sophomore
Frankie Mudd scored her second goal of the season to guide the Oakland women's soccer team to a thrilling 1-1 draw against visiting Northern Kentucky Thursday night from the Oakland Soccer Field in the annual Red 2 Racism game.
Northern Kentucky 3-2-5 (0-1-2 HL) struck first in the 71st minute to take the 1-0 lead in the second half.
The Golden Grizzlies 2-4-4 (0-0-2 HL) continued to battle, tallying all six shots in the second half, four coming on goal.
It wasn't until the 88th minute Oakland was able to find the back of the net as Mudd launched a shot from nearly mid-field over the NKU keeper to tie things up at 1-1. Freshman goalkeeper
Julia Zangerl recorded her first career assist feeding Mudd the ball from the backfield.
Thursday's match marked the annual Red 2 Racism game, an initiative which aims to educate, equip and empower student-athletes who want to move past superficial, non-performative actions to meaningful discussions and lessons everyone needs to experience to become performative-action change agents.
The Golden Grizzlies will travel to Cleveland State to take on the Vikings, Sunday Sept. 24 at 1 p.m. from Krenzler Soccer Field.
