Manhattan, Kan. - The Oakland Men's Golf Team completed a rollercoaster of an event at the Wildcat Invitational hosted by Kansas State. Round one saw the Grizzlies come out firing.
Sophomore
Ellis Kinnaird had 5 birdies and 1 bogey en route to a 4 under, 68. Competing in his first collegiate event, freshman
Robert Burns carded 5 birdies en route to a 3 under, 69. Additionally, freshman
Ben Willis had 5 birdies en route to a 1 under 71, and sophomore
Luke Kelly fired a 1 under, 71. The Golden Grizzlies shot 9 under for the round, the 4th best 18-hole score in school history. The winds picked up in round two and unfortunately, it saw the Grizzly Linksters struggle to a 16 over par round two.
The final round saw the Grizzlies come out firing and 1 under as a team for the first 9 holes. Battling fatigue at the end, the Grizzlies finished the event in 9th place with Burns picking up a 16th place finish. Kinnaird finished in 42nd place (+7) Willis and
Edward Rowe finished in 57th place, and Kelly rounded out the scoring in 61st place (+10)
The Grizzlies led the tournament in par 3 scoring for the week at +10 and finished 3rd in par 5 scoring at -10.
The team will have two weeks off before they defend their title at the Tom Tontimonia Invitational hosted by Cleveland State
