Program Top 10 Records Fall as Oakland Shines at Don Benbow Invitational

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – At the annual Don Benbow Spring Invitational, the Oakland University men's golf team recorded three program top-10 achievements, including two from freshman Rakshit Dahiya.

The Golden Grizzlies posted their best team score of the season, finishing fifth at 11-over 855 on the par-70, 6,623-yard Highland Country Club course. The 855 total ranks as the fifth-lowest 54-hole score in Oakland men's golf history, joining this season's performances at the Tom Tontimonia Invitational (858, seventh) and Golden Nugget Invitational (860, 10th) in the record book.

Dahiya led Oakland in the invitational, tying for ninth overall with a one-under 209. That total moves him into the program record book, tied for ninth for the lowest individual 54-hole score. His 209 was powered by a four-under 66 in his second round on day one, which also entered the record book, tying for third for the lowest individual round.

In addition to his record-book performances, Dahiya tied for fourth in par-three scoring average (3.08), tied for sixth in birdies with 12, and tied for ninth in par-five scoring average (4.33).

Junior Matteo Rocco and senior Ellis Kinnaird both carded a six-over 216, tying for 32nd in a field of 96 golfers. Kinnaird produced the only eagle for the Golden Grizzlies, holing out on his last hole of the second round, the par-4 second. He also tied for ninth overall in par-five scoring average alongside Dahiya. Rocco led the team in pars with 35 over the 54 holes.

In his first team appearance since the Dayton Flyer Invitational, junior Robert Burns posted a seven-over 217, improving his score from Dayton by one stroke. Burns climbed more than 20 spots on the leaderboard on the final day thanks to his one-under-par closing round.

Redshirt junior Jack Zubkus and senior Luke Kelly tied for 60th to wrap up the Golden Grizzlies' effort. Zubkus tied for third overall in par-five scoring average at 4.17. Kelly, competing as an individual, turned in a top-25 par-five scoring performance with an average of 4.50 strokes and finished with the second-most birdies on the team with 10.

As a team, Oakland ranked second overall in par-five scoring average at 4.50 strokes, trailing only fellow Horizon League program Purdue Fort Wayne, which averaged 4.37. Purdue Fort Wayne was the only one of the five other Horizon League programs in the field to finish ahead of the Golden Grizzlies, placing fourth with a final score of 851. IU Indianapolis finished sixth (856), Robert Morris tied for seventh (865), Detroit Mercy placed ninth (867), and Green Bay and Youngstown State tied for 10th (872).
