Oakland falls to Northern Kentucky in first home Horizon League match of season

ROCHESTER, Mich. - On a beautiful Saturday afternoon at the Oakland Soccer Field, the Golden Grizzlies were defeated by the Northern Kentucky Norse, 3-0, on September 16.

With this loss, Oakland is now 1-4-1 on the season and 1-1 in Horizon League play, while the Norse improve to 1-2-3 and have the same record in conference action.

Junior Simon Knuewe started the scoring for Northern Kentucky with a header in the 49th minute and this tally was followed by goals from senior Nico Stoddard in the 68th minute and graduate student Sam Robinson in the 77th.

The Golden Grizzlies outshot the Norse, 15-5, including five on goal, but redshirt sophomore Nic Lemen came up with a couple of diving stops to keep Oakland off the scoreboard.

A trio of Golden Grizzlies received yellow cards, sophomore Malik Sylvester in the 24th minute, freshman Andrew Darakjian in the 69th and redshirt senior Owen Smith in the 79th.

UP NEXT
Completing a quick two-match homestand, Oakland will welcome in the Big Ten Conference's (B1G) Michigan Wolverines for a non-league showdown on Tuesday, September 19 at 7 p.m. on ESPN+ ($).

Playing the Maryland Terrapins to a 2-2 draw in College Park in their most recent action on Thursday, September 14, Michigan will bring a 1-2-3 record into play Tuesday.
