ROCHESTER, Mich. - In front of a terrific crowd of more than 700, the Golden Grizzlies topped the Michigan Wolverines, 2-1, on Tuesday, September 19 at the Oakland Soccer Field.
Picking up this win in head coach Eric Pogue's first match of the season, the Golden Grizzlies improve to 2-4-1, while the Wolverines, a member of the Big Ten Conference (B1G), fall to 1-3-3.
Tied at nil at the half, Oakland sophomore Malik Sylvester started the scoring with a header off a corner kick in the 53rd minute and Michigan tied it back up with a goal by freshman Joao Paulo Ramos in the 65th.
Having picked up the assist on Sylvester's tally, freshman Donavan Phillip completed his three-point night and lifted the Golden Grizzlies to the win by finding the back of the net in the 85th minute off a beautiful crossing feed from graduate student Mikey Ketteman, his team-leading second goal of the campaign.
Earning his second win in his fourth start, graduate student goalkeeper Finn Jurak recorded a save for Oakland and freshman Isaiah Goldson had four stops for the Wolverines.
