TOLEDO, Ohio - Their first non-tournament match of the 2023 season, the Oakland Golden Grizzlies will make the trip to Savage Arena to square off with the Toledo Rockets at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, September 12 on ESPN+ (subscription required).

Hosting the Golden Grizzlies Invitational from September 8-9, Oakland will enter play at 4-5 this year, while the Rockets, a member of the Mid-American Conference (MAC), are 2-6.

Oakland is 2-0 against the MAC in 2023 with both victories coming over the Eastern Michigan Eagles and the Golden Grizzlies have the chance to begin Horizon League play on September 19 with a winning record if they can go 2-1 over their next three matches.

Senior Patti Cesarini paces the Golden Grizzlies with 108 kills and freshman Gentry Brown and redshirt junior Libby Gentile have stepped up alongside her, tallying 60 and 81, respectively.

Earning Golden Grizzlies Invitational All-Tournament Team honors, graduate student setter Sarah Turner has a team-high 191 assists with sophomore Rachel Rossman 25 back at 166.

Nearly double her closest teammate, junior libero Emily Wichmann brings 175 digs this season into play Tuesday and is now up 921 in this category in her career, giving her sole possession of ninth on Oakland's all-time list.

SCOUTING THE ROCKETS
Dropping both their matches in the North Dakota State Tournament in Fargo from September 8-9, Toledo is led by sixth-year head coach Jason Oliver, who was an assistant coach with the Indiana Hoosiers before joining the Rockets.

Picked to finish fourth in the MAC West Division Preseason Coaches Poll, Toledo is led offensively by Ottawa, Ohio senior Taylor Alt's 107 kills and she is followed by fellow senior Jada Bouyer with 76 and sophomore Izzy Granger at 67.

Kalamazoo fifth-year senior Ryann Jaqua is the lone Rocket in triple-digit digs with 141, but Granger is closing in on the threshold with 85.

Oakland and Toledo have not faced a common opponent in 2023.
