Preview: Flames and Golden Grizzlies to Clash in Friday Night Battle

ROCHESTER, Mich. – Oakland University Men's Soccer heads west to Chicago, Illinois for a two-game swing starting on Friday, September 1 against the University of Illinois-Chicago at 8:00 p.m.

Oakland came away from their Mid-Atlantic and Mid-Western road trip 0-2-0 to start the season with losses to then No. 11 Marshall University and Xavier University last weekend.

Andrew Darakdjian has scored the team's only goal of the young 2023 season for two points off five shots. Right behind him is Ville Ahola, Luke Benford, Mikey Ketteman, and Owen Smith who have tallied two shots each.

Alex Flowers has started both games in goal for Oakland with 158 minutes of play with five goals allowed and a total of 17 saves on the season in 47 shots faced. Michael Sly Jr. has appeared in 21 minutes with a save and a goal allowed.

Following Friday, Oakland will take on Loyola University Chicago on Monday, September 4 in Chicago, Illinois at 2:00 p.m.

SCOUTING THE FLAMES

The former Horizon League foe is coming into their home stadium (the third of four in a row) with two wins under their belt. Most recently, the Flames (2-0-0) bested St. Thomas University 3-0 last Sunday behind goals from Sidney Warden, Josh Torres, and Andres Lemus.

Jesus De Vincente along with Warden and Lemus lead the team in points with four apiece while Bart Muns and Josh Torres have each generated two points off two assists and a goal, respectively.

Defensively, UIC has only played one keeper in Oren Asher who has 180 minutes with only one goal allowed, six saves, and 18 shots faced for a 2-0-0 record.

Following Friday's contest, the Flames will host Wisconsin on Monday to round out the four-game homestand.
