Second Half Scoring Frenzy Not Enough to Dethrone Xavier

CINCINNATI, Ohio – On Sunday evening, Oakland University Men's Soccer battled, and fell, to host Xavier University on the Musketeers' home Corcoran Field.

Luke Benford wasted no time just 2:30 into the game by getting a shot up followed by Owen Smith just nine minutes later. Further into the frame, Mikey Ketteman and Ville Ahola had their opportunities as the team headed into the locker room tied 0-0 with the host Musketeers (1-0-1).

After the first 45 minutes, Xavier had put up 11 shots to Oakland's (0-2-0) aforementioned four while Alex Flowers had to generate five saves to keep the game at a stalemate.

In the second half, Andrew Darakdjian put up an on-target shot at the 52' minute mark. Three minutes later, the Musketeers planted their first goal of the afternoon.

Darakdjian then followed up with the equalizer at the 66' mark from about 10 yards outside the box. Xavier responded a minute later with a goal of their own as the tie lasted a single minute.

In the end, Xavier had a grand total of 22 shots up on the scoreboard, 13 of which on goal, to the Golden Grizzlies' 10 with six on goal.
