With the exhibition season out of the way, including a recent 3-0 win over Madonna University (Mich.), the Golden Grizzlies can turn their attention to the 2023 regular season slate starting with Kent State.

On Wednesday, the Golden Grizzlies received 93 points to be predicted to finish second in the annual #HLWSOC Preseason Poll. The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee took the top spot with 120 points and all ten first-place votes.

Jayna Fraser is the team's returning scorer with two goals and two assists for a total of six points off 27 shots in 2022 while Izzy Karkaba stands in with a single goal off three assists and nine shots.

Sophomore Hawaiian Anuhea Aluli picked up two goals in the team's 3-0 win over Madonna last Saturday as she re-enters the lineup after an injury her freshman year along with pickups like Lorelai Miller, Sunniva Raaen, Frankie Mudd, and others will press with a fluid attack that generated 14.0 shots per game last season.

The Golden Grizzlies will return to the pitch following a 2022 campaign that had a program-best goals against average (GAA) of .579 which ranked 12th in the entirety of NCAA Division I. Defenders such as Tianna McDonald, Putri Sazali, Sara Ivandic, Trystan Thomopson-Cotterell, Allie Tefend, and Tally Diamond will do the honors of carrying the iron curtain of the defense.

The best-returning keeper is Hayley Lindow who started a single game in 2022 while appearing in four, allowing two goals and eight saves. Lindow is joined by freshmen Julia Zangerl and Lauren Perry

SCOUTING THE GOLDEN FLASHES

Oakland will be the third-straight #HLWSOC team Kent State has played to this point following two exhibition contests with Youngstown State University and Purdue University Fort Wayne. Over the summer, head coach Rob Marinaro signed a contract extension through the 2025-26 season as he enters his 22nd season at Kent State.

Marinaro's squad went 4-7-7 overall, 4-2-5 in Mid-American Conference play in 2022 including a loss to Oakland on August 21, 2-0 in Kent, Ohio.

Eight freshmen will join the Golden Flashes this fall as Alisa Arthur, the team's leading returner, comes back with three goals and four assists a season ago along with Siena Stambolich who also posted three goals and two assists. Sarah Melen locked down between the pipes in 2022 in 18 games with 57 saves and 24 games allowed.
