Cayman Islands Classic Unveils the Golden Grizzlies' Opponent

GEORGE TOWN, GRAND CAYMAN, CAYMAN ISLANDS – Oakland University Men's Basketball will take on Drake University in the first round of the Cayman Islands Classic on Sunday, November 19 at 11:00 am Eastern time.

The Golden Grizzlies and Bulldogs have never played on the hardwood before giving Oakland a matchup with the reigning Missouri Valley Conference champions from a season ago. Drake registered a 27-8 overall mark, 15-5 in MVC play during the 2022-23 campaign with a No. 12 seed appearance in the NCAA Tournament, falling to No. 5 University of Miami in the first round.

The winner and loser will then play the result of the next matchup in the bracket, Stephen F. Austin State University and Loyola Marymount University the following day, November 20. The Lumberjacks went 19-13 last season, 11-7 in Western Athletic Conference play while the Lions finished 19-12, 9-7 in West Coast Conference action.

Elsewhere in the bracket, Utah State University will take on Marshall University at 5:00 pm on November 19 before the University of Akron and Florida International University play at 7:30 pm.
