Oakland falls to Eastern Michigan in final road game of regular season

YPSILANTI, Mich. - Seeing their season-long six-game win streak come to an end, the Oakland Golden Grizzlies were defeated by the Mid-American Conference's (MAC) Eastern Michigan Eagles, 17-8, on Tuesday, May 16 at Oestrike Stadium.

Still possessing an opportunity to finish the regular season .500, Oakland is now 25-28 (16-11 Horizon League), while Eastern Michigan improves to 24-26 (9-18 MAC).

Making his third start, freshman right-hander Jaxson Easterlin (2-4) took the loss for the Golden Grizzlies, allowing five runs on six hits over an inning-and-a-third.

Junior lefty Jake Matthaidess followed Easterlin and recorded the next five outs, with seniors Noah Stants and Brett Hagen and freshman Tanner Ware finishing the contest.

His 13th appearance, Ware, a native of North Canton, Ohio, turned in the longest scoreless outing of his young career, holding the Eagles off the scoreboard in the seventh and eighth and tallying a pair of strikeouts on an efficient 25 pitches.

Reaching the 30-RBI mark for the second-straight season, graduate student second baseman Jared Miller paced the Oakland offense Tuesday, going 2-5 with three runs driven in. Redshirt senior shortstop Thomas Green also collected multiple knocks and drove in a run, bringing his RBI total on the year to 33.

Hitting two home runs, his fourth and fifth of the campaign, Redding, California graduate student right fielder Kyle Schroedle led the way for Eastern Michigan, finishing the tilt with a career-high four RBI.

Seniors Aaron Dolney and Blake McRae, Brunswick, Ohio sophomore first baseman Josh Kross, Milford, Ohio graduate student designated hitter Matt Kirk and Shelbyville, Indiana junior second baseman Cory Taylor all registered multiple-hit nights for the Eagles, as well, with Kirk and Taylor also hitting long balls.

Working 2.2 innings from the third through the fifth and the middle of the five pitchers Eastern Michigan used, Okeana, Ohio senior left-hander Trevor House (3-1) was the winning pitcher of record.

Coincidentally, House also earned the victory in the March 28 meeting between these two at the Oakland Baseball Field.
