Three School Records Fall in Big Outdoor Weekend

ROCHESTER, Mich. – Three school records fell in Oakland University Track & Field's two-meet weekend in the Spartan Invitational and Pacesetter Sports Invitational in split-squad trips.

On Friday in East Lansing, Emily Schaub headlined with a school record in the Women's Javelin, tossing a 40.73m (133'7") for second as Erin Hegarty also took second in the Women's 5000m in 17:58.15. 

Colin Kane broke away in the Men's 5000m for the win, stopping his watch in 14:57.52. Romario Jackson then took runner-up in the Men's Discus with a heave of 49.99m (164'0").

Azsah Bradley and Makiya Worthy kicked things off in the Pacesetter Sports Invitational with a second and third-place punch in the Women's 100m dash with FAT time stopping at 12.07 and 12.11 seconds, respectively.

Alex Hugh-Plott now owns both the indoor and outdoor school records in the Men's High Jump as the senior toppled 2.15m (7'0.5") for first overall in Terre Haute. 

Then it was Shamar Jenkins' turn in the Men's Triple Jump, stepping and leaping for a distance of 14.40m (47'3") to nab first overall along with his fifth-place Men's Long Jump performance.

Samari Finney grabbed first place in the Women's 400m dash as the freshman went sub-1:00 with a performance of 58.21 seconds. Simara Miller doubled in the Women's Long Jump and Women's Triple Jump with bounds of 5.46m (17'11") and 11.98m (39'3.75"), respectively. 

Gabe Singh picked right up where he left off with an individual victory in the Men's 400m Hurdles in 53.03 seconds while Nathaneal Wilson stole the Men's 110m Hurdle win in 14.67 seconds.

Payton Sabourin saw similar results on the oval in the Women's 400m Hurdles with another victory to her belt with a mark of 1:01.71 as well.

Oakland will host the Golden Grizzlies invite on Saturday, April 8 at the Oakland Track & Field for the squad's next challenge, this time in Rochester.
