INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - With the Outdoor Track and Field season at a close for the Golden Grizzlies, they aren't done receiving awards for a season full of accomplishments. On Friday May 24, the Horizon League awarded Oakland runners Adam Hill and O'Hara Diamond as the 2023-24 #HLTF Sportsmanship Award winners, sweeping the awards for the men and women's teams.
While neither athlete competed in the outdoor track and field season, they both showed immeasurable support for their teams and others. Whether it meant helping cheer on those competing, setting up for each event at home meets, or providing any sort of positive energy, both Hill and Diamond never fell short.Â
"I am so happy to see both of these athletes recognized with this award," said Oakland Head Track and Field Coach Paul Rice. "Adam has been a team captain and is one of the most positive and energetic people you will ever meet. The way he supports his teammates and friends in and out of practice is amazing. He works incredibly hard at everything he does and is truly one of those people that make the world a better place!"
"O'Hara has dealt some pretty tough stuff this year as a true freshman with an injury," added Rice. "She is always the first one to walk in the door for practice. Her participation in practice each day was helping set up (and put away) equipment, holding stopwatches and reading splits during workouts, helping the coaches keep track of our athletes' progressions in practice, and she was definitely the loudest cheerleader in the room each day".Â
Two amazing individuals and even better teammates, the Golden Grizzlies felt the impact of both student-athletes all season.
