OXFORD, Ohio – Oakland University Softball dropped a 1-0 defensive showcase against Miami University (Ohio) at the Miami Softball Stadium as part of the Miami Invitational in Oxford, Ohio on Saturday.

The Golden Grizzlies struggled to get their offense moving early though the host Redhawks took no time on batting singles onto the board. Reese Ruhlman smacked Oakland's first hit of the game in a single to the shortstop but nothing more went OU's way through the next few innings.

A key throw from Maci Brown to Ruhlman at third tagged a big third out in the bottom of the third as the Redhawk doubled and attempted to advance to the corner before the Oakland defense got in the way.

Both Leah Bieniewicz and Brown hit singles against the second-place MAC team though Miami used a big sixth inning to take a 1-0 advantage, forcing the Golden Grizzlies into a three-out situation to stay alive in its first game of the multi-team invite.

Two groundouts and a swinging strikeout ended Oakland's chances of coming back against the stout red and white team.

The Golden Grizzlies will clash with the University of Louisville in Kentucky on Sunday, April 16 starting at 1:00 pm as part of a doubleheader.
