Oakland Drops Doubleheader to Louisville

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Oakland University Softball dropped a doubleheader to the University of Louisville on Sunday at Ulmer Stadium.

GAME ONE // LOUISVILLE 10, OAKLAND 5

The Cardinals took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first via a home run before the hosts popped off to a 5-0 lead just an inning later.

Kayla Rodriguez crossed home plate in the top of the third thanks to her single to left center followed by an RBI double to right-center to make the game 5-1 in the middle of the third. Five more runs flashed on the board at 10-1 before the bottom of the fifth proved fruitful for the OU offense.

Kamryn Troyer's leadoff single to the pitcher allowed her to circle the bases behind Rodriguez's fielders choice and Leah Bieniewicz's single. Herrington's sacrifice fly allowed the freshman to score while the catcher, Jen Krizka, batted a two-RBI triple to center field.

Krizka crossed home for the Golden Grizzlies' final run with Allisa DiPrima's single as the game would end 10-5 after seven.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Herrington and Krizka earned two RBIs apiece, and Bieniewicz went 2-2 at the plate with a walk
  • DiPrima bagged the final RBI
  • The freshman Rodriguez recorded two hits in her three plate appearances
  • Sydney Campbell earns her sixth loss of the season with seven earned runs and a strikeout

GAME TWO // LOUISVILLE 9, OAKLAND 1 (6 INN.)

Louisville jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back to start game two. An error by the Cardinals' third baseman allowed Reese Ruhlman to get on the corner after getting hit by a pitch then DiPrima's fielders choice.

Bieniewicz hit an RBI single to bring Ruhlman home for Oakland's only run of the ballgame.

The game would reach a run rule in the bottom of the sixth after Louisville doubled down the left-field line.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Bieniewicz finished the day 2-3 at the plate in the final game with an RBI
  • Mia Konyvka took the loss after 5.2 innings of play with six earned runs

Oakland will play one final non-conference game against yet another Mid-American Conference (MAC) school Western Michigan in Kalamazoo on Wednesday, April 19 at 2:30 pm.
