Men's Squad Cruises to Victory in Front Half of Final Regular Season Road Trip

GREEN BAY, Wis. – Oakland University Men's Basketball cruised to a 59-47 win on the road at the Kress Center against Green Bay on Thursday night in the front half of the last road trip of the 2022-23 campaign.

The Golden Grizzlies (11-15, 9-6 #HLMBB) struggled to put away the home Phoenix (3-23, 2-13 #HLMBB) early in the match as Jalen Moore wasted no time getting his name in the scoring column just 27 seconds into the contest.

The six-point lead would quickly widdle down to a two-point deficit with 12:51 in the first as Trey Townsend started his impressive statistical day with a jumper 50 seconds later to regain the Oakland lead. A little back-and-forth tussle by both squads saw that squashed by Keaton Hervey's three-point play as the Golden Grizzlies began a run that never looked back.

Green Bay didn't score for a total of seven-plus minutes as the Golden Grizzlies' offense flourished under the Phoenix's woes, Townsend and Chris Conway getting in on the action with time winding down as the clock ticked to 3:10.

A ten-point edge is all that stood between halftime and the Oakland team with the Phoenix surging with just under a minute remaining in the frame.

With time winding down in the Kress Center, Townsend plants a massive dunk to emphasize the Golden Grizzlies' lead heading into halftime 29-18 following three UWGB free throws.

No shots fell for Oakland for two and a half minutes out of the break as Green Bay exploded into a nine-point stretch. It wasn't until a foul-plus-one opportunity for Moore that broke the drought and the fans at the Kress Center were sent back to their seats.

Blake Lampman drilled a three-pointer with 15:24 remaining to suck the air out effectively of the arena in northern Wisconsin as Oakland burst out to a 20-point edge with the Phoenix's scoring stalled for eleven and a half minutes.

Bench depth like Lorne Bowman II, Darius Sherman, Brody Parker, Will Shepherd, and Osei Price saw time as the Golden Grizzlies cruised to the victory in a low-scoring game 59-47.
