Saints Use Big First Inning to Down Oakland 6-3

MADEIRA BEACH, Fla. – On Monday, Oakland University Softball suffered a 6-3 defeat to Siena off the Saints' big first inning at ROC Park and Field 2 as part of the team's conclusion of The Spring Games.

The Saints wasted no time, putting five runs on the board with the Golden Grizzlies answering in the bottom of the second from Maci Brown's single to right field, moving over to second off Allisa DiPrima's own single to short, and to third via a walk to Leah Bieniewicz

Makayla Jauregui's sac fly to left field gave the green light for Brown to score as the only run for the Golden Grizzlies for an inning.

Still down 6-1 in the bottom of the third, a wild pitch by the Saints' arm sent Kamryn Troyer home after her single to shortstop then found herself on the scoring corner while advancing base off a groundout to third and Brown's single up the middle to reel Siena back in slowly 6-2.

Reese Ruhlman scored in the same inning from DiPrima's RBI single to short with the defensemen forced to make a quick decision on whether or not to put out the runner at home or at first.

At the end of the third, Oakland would leave the bases loaded and the game 6-3.

The rest of the way, both defenses held the other scoreless with the final game of The Spring Games on the line as the Golden Grizzlies were handed their second loss of the year 6-3.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Freshman Maraina Smith was credited with the loss in 1.1 innings of work while Sydney Campbell took over in the second allowing six hits and five strikeouts in 22 innings of work
  • DiPrima went 3-3 from the plate with an RBI and was walked. This is a career-high for the White Lake native as DiPrima had only reached two hits in a game six times in 2022
  • Brown finished 2-3 with a run to her name
  • Troyer continues to spearhead the freshman class with a 1-4 appearance at the plate with a single run
