Oakland shutout in first of four games with Kansas

CLEBURNE, Texas – The first of four neutral-site clashes at The Depot at Cleburne Station, the Kansas Jayhawks defeated the Oakland Golden Grizzlies, 7-0, on Friday, February 24.

Oakland falls to 0-4, while the Jayhawks, who belong to the Big 12 Conference, improve to 3-1.

Making his second start of the young season, senior left-hander Travis Densmore took the loss for the Golden Grizzlies, giving up six runs on six hits with four walks and four strikeouts over 3.2 innings.

Taking over for Densmore in the fourth, freshman right-hander Jaxson Easterlin was strong in his collegiate debut, tallying 3.1 innings of one-run, one-hit baseball with three strikeouts.

Two Kansas pitchers were responsible for Friday's shutout, with graduate student righty Collin Baumgartner working five no-hit frames for his second win and junior Thaniel Trumper, a fellow right-hander, handling the final four innings for his first save.

Freshman center fielder Reggie Bussey and graduate student first baseman Jared Miller recorded Oakland's two hits, both of which were sixth-inning singles. Hailing from Twinsburg, Ohio, this was the first collegiate hit for Bussey.

Sophomore right fielder Luke Leto plated a pair of Jayhawk runs in the first with a single up the middle and Kansas added another in the second on a home run by redshirt sophomore catcher Jake English.

Totaling eight hits, with English, senior first baseman Cole Elvis and redshirt junior shortstop Collier Cranford collecting two apiece, the Jayhawks scored three more in the fourth and their final run in the sixth.
