Swim Wraps Up Day Three With Speed in Conference Championships

ROCHESTER, Mich. - Day three of Horizon League Championships wrapped up in Indianapolis in a leading position for the women's team at 643 points, and the men are at a close second place position with 568 points. 

Jordyn Shipps took the victory out of the gate for the Golden Grizzlies in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of (53.82) in the lanes. 

Then Susan LaGrand came in and dominated the 400-yard IM with a finishing time of (4:13.17), right ahead of Sohvi Nenonen with a third-place time of (4:20.83). 

The title for the women's 100-yard breaststroke was taken by Bella Gary with a speedy time of (1:02.60). Notably, Taylor Bailey finished third in the event with a time of (1:03.41).

Kiera Brough roped in a third-place finish behind her performance in the women's 100-yard backstroke finishing in a time of (57.06). 

On the men's team, Sam McKenzie took the gold in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of (1:36.26). And notably, teammate Jonas Cantrell swam in beside him to finish second place with a time of (1:36.63).

Following was Christian Bart's remarkable school and conference record performance in the men's 100-yard breaststroke in a time of (51.91), and Christopher Palvadre claimed the third-place spot in a time of (53.62). 

Marko Khotynetskyi brought his best in the pool resulting in a first-place finish in the men's 100-yard backstroke event in a time of (46.69). Harry Nicholson finished third alongside Khotynetskyi in a time of (48.19).

The last event of Friday night's competition included the 400-yard medley relay, and Oakland answered in both the men's and women's events with a dominating first-place finish to wrap up day three of competition in the IU Natatorium. The women swam in at a time of (3:41.50) with LaGrand, Gary, Shipps, and Keranen. On the other side, the men recorded a conference record time of (3:09.88) behind the efforts of Khotynetskyi, Bart, Balladone, and McKenzie. 

The Golden Grizzlies will conclude the Horizon League Championships in the IU Natatorium tomorrow, February 18th.
