YPSILANTI, Mich. - The Golden Grizzlies took care of business on the road as the team cruised to a win against the Eagles, 77-63, tonight inside the Gervin GameAbove Center.

Trey Townsend of the Golden Grizzlies (6-5, 1-1 HL) led the way and was one of three players to have double-digit points with his 22. Townsend was lights out from the floor and made nine of his 12 attempts and nearly came away with a double-double as he grabbed nine boards. Behind Townsend was
DQ Cole and
Jack Gohlke who both finished the night with 11 points.

The Eagles (5-4, 0-0 MAC) also had three players with double-digit point nights, as Tyson Acuff led the Eagles with his 18 points and played all 40 minutes.

The Eagles jumped out to a quick five-point lead, but Townsend floated one in followed by
Isaiah Jones who converted a second-chance bucket to put the lead at one. Eastern extended its lead a bit, but back-to-back threes from Gohlke gave the Golden Grizzlies its first lead of the game at 10-7. The Eagles answered with a three of its own but a quick two from
Rocket Watts put Oakland ahead at the first media timeout.

The Eagles knotted things up at 12 apiece, but the Golden Grizzlies proceeded to score six-straight, highlighted by a steal and fastbreak dunk from Townsend. Eastern converted from the free throw line with three makes, but Watts contributed the next five points of the game to extend Oakland's lead to 23-15. Jones packed it on and swished one from deep to give the Golden Grizzlies its first double-digit lead of the game with 7:14 to play.

The Eagles rallied back in the final minutes of play and went on a 9-2 run to cut its deficit to three, but it was still the Golden Grizzlies who led on the scoreboard after the first 20, 34-31.

Townsend led the Golden Grizzlies with nine points (4-of-7 FG) after the first half and grabbed the most boards by either side with five. As a team, the Golden Grizzlies were 12-of-27 from the floor (.444) with four threes and edged out the Eagles who shot at a .417 clip from the field. Oakland held a narrow lead on the glass, with one more rebound than Eastern, where the Eagles converted from the charity stripe and made all seven attempts.

Unlike the first half, the Golden Grizzlies came out of the locker room and built on its lead with a
Chris Conway layup followed by Gohlke from beyond the arc. Both teams went back-and-forth trading points as Townsend pushed the lead back up to nine with a layup and the foul.

Townsend went on to score the next six points for the Golden Grizzlies, three-point play included, to put its lead back to double-digits with 13:00 to play. Five quick points turned the lead to 15 as the Golden Grizzlies appeared to be in control of the contest.

Townsend continued to dominate the floor with a ferocious slam followed by five-straight from
Osei Price, including one from range, to push the Golden Grizzlies lead to 20 with 6:00 to play. Oakland made it difficult for the Eagles to attempt a comeback as the Golden Grizzlies rode its momentum and continued to pile on.

Oakland went up, 72-48, but the Eagles rallied behind a 14-0 run to cut its deficit to 10 with 1:45 to play. Jones put the run to a halt with a make from under the basket to put the game to rest as the Golden Grizzlies came away on top, 77-63.

The Golden Grizzlies improved from the floor in the final 20 and shot at a .581 clip from the floor and drained three from range to improve its percentage to 51.7%. The Eagles also improved on the floor at a .444 clip to put its total at .431. Off the glass, the Golden Grizzlies snagged 35 rebounds while the Eagles came away with 28.

The Golden Grizzlies get the next week off before it heads to East Lansing to take on the Michigan State Spartans. Tip-off from the Breslin Center is set for 7:00 p.m. Monday, Dec. 18., in the teams final Power-Five matchup of the season.
