Wierenga’s Two-Goal Day Lifts Oakland To 2-1 Win Over YSU

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Macey Wierenga scored two goals en route to Oakland women's soccer 2-1 win over Youngstown State Sunday afternoon.

Wierenga put together her first multiple goal game of her career starting with a penalty kick in the 6th minute to give the Golden Grizzlies an earlier 1-0 lead. Jayna Fraser was able to draw a foul in the box resulting in an Oakland PK. Wierenga was able to convert on the penalty kick opportunity for the third time this season, her fifth goal of the year.

The Caledonia, Mich. native struck again at the 28:35 mark off an assist from Olivia Darnell to give Oakland the two goal advantage.

Youngstown State netted its first goal of the day less than two minutes into the second half to cut the deficit to one.

Neither team was able to find the back of the net the rest of the game although YSU had three solid opportunities down the stretch including a header hitting the goalpost in the 85th minute. The other two chances came when Julia Zangerl made two of her seven saves in the final minute of the game.
