Women's Soccer Earns Back-to-Back Wins as they Knock off IUPUI on the Road

Indianapolis, IN – The Golden Grizzlies shined as they bested Horizon League opponent IUPUI 2-1 at Michael A. Carroll Stadium.

Oakland set an aggressive tone in the first half with several aggressive runs and counters that went deep into IUPUI's side of the pitch.

Although none of their six first-half shots materialized into early goals, senior midfielder Izzy Karkaba nearly capitalized in the 13' minute where her shot inside the box was slightly deflected, knocking off the crossbar, coming inches from giving Oakland the early lead.

In the 27' minute, IUPUI broke the tie as senior Emma Antoine zipped a ball past OU freshman goalie Julia Zangerl to give the Jags a 1-0 lead.

Zengerl ended the game with an impressive performance in goal, knocking away several crosses and gaining four saves, including a high-flying leaping save in the 38' minute to stop the IUPUI lead from growing.

Oakland turned up the heat coming out of halftime, scoring twice in ten minutes to take a 2-1 lead. Sophomore Anuhea Aluli netted Oakland's first goal in the 49' minute as she snuck the ball into the bottom left of the goal. Aluli then assisted Frankie Mudd as she scored the go-ahead goal for the Golden Grizzlies, giving them the 2-1 lead.

The Golden Grizzlies created quality opportunities to score all night, taking nine shots on goal to IUPUI's five.

"I'm really proud of the team for their resilience and grit," said a proud Oakland head coach Juan Pablo Favero. "This was a big time road result against a very good team. Now we rest, recover, and reload to prepare for another important league match."

Oakland gives IUPUI their first conference loss of the season and snaps the Jags' nine game winning streak.

Oakland improves to a very even 5-5-5 record, along with an impressive 3-1-3 record in Horizon League play.

With just over two weeks left in the regular season, Oakland returns home looking to extend their winning streak to three games this Sunday against Green Bay.
