Women's Soccer Ties in Hard-Fought Match with Green Bay

Rochester, Mich. - In what might've been the coldest game played this season, the Golden Grizzlies ended their Sunday match against Green Bay in a 0-0 draw.

Both teams struggled to find much offense to start the game. Oakland made several promising pushes into Green Bay's final third of the field, but couldn't materialize any goals.

"It was a disappointing result for us. There's a lof of importance in these three points because the conference is so tight," Said Oakland Head Coach Juan Pablo Favero.

Oakland sophomore Frankie Mudd looked to be Oakland's strongest offensive presence in today's match, firing at will from beyond the box. While Mudd was unable to add to her four goals this season, she pushed the envelope and showed aggresiveness and urgency throughout the match. She was a catalyst in the second half as Oakland pressed the issue and saw more opportunities to score.

"I'm proud of the team for playing better in the second half," said Oakland Head Coach Juan Pablo Favero. "I thought we played better in the second half and created more chances, just not enough to put any in the back of the net."

Oakland's defense also stepped into the spotlight. They were able to limit the amount of deep runs by Green Bay, especially in the second half, while freshman goalkeeper Julia Zangerl was a brick wall in goal, tallying eight saves on the day.

Oakland stands in fourth place among all Horizon League teams, but the opportunity to move up in the rankings is still there.

Oakland is now tied in points (13) with Robert Morris, sit just one point behind the current second place team in Wright State, and are just one point ahead of NKU and IUPUI who are wrestling for fifth and sixth place. Every game for the Golden Grizzlies will have playoff implications going forward.

Their next game is a thrilling home matchup against the conference-leading Milwaukee Panthers on Saturday, Oct. 21. Be sure to show your support as we host Senior Day to honor the amazing senior class on our team!
