Men’s Soccer Looks To Continue Momentum at Purdue Fort Wayne Saturday

ROCHESTER, Mich. – The Oakland men's soccer team will travel to take on Purdue Fort Wayne on the road Saturday, Oct. 7 at 1 p.m. from the Hefner Soccer Complex.
 
The Golden Grizzlies (3-5-2, 2-2 HL) are coming off a 2-1 win over Milwaukee with goals from Mikey Ketteman and Owen Smith with the game winner.
 
Michael Sly Jr. earned Under Armour #HLMSOC Player of the Week honors after two solid performances last week.  Sly recorded 17 saves over two games against no. 12 Michigan State and Milwaukee guiding Oakland to a 1-1 finish on the week. In his first start of the year, the redshirt sophomore tallied eight saves against MSU to secure a 2-2 draw against the Spartans. He followed up his mid-week performance by leading Oakland to its first home conference win of the year against Milwaukee recording nine saves, second most on the year among Horizon League foes. The Grand Blanc, Mich. native made back-to-back starts for the first time this season playing all 180 minutes. It marked the first Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week honors of the year for Sly, the third of his career after earning the conference recognition twice a season ago.
 
Ketteman has scored a team-best four goals this season, good for seventh in the Horizon League. Freshman Donavan Phillip continues to thrive in his freshman campaign leading the Golden Grizzlies in points with nine, coming from two goals and a league-best five assists placing him tied for 26th in the country.
 
Purdue Fort Wayne (5-3-1, 3-1-0 HL) currently sits second in the Horizon League standings and was riding a six-game win streak before falling to Robert Morris, 3-0 the last time out.
 
The Mastadons lead the conference in shots per game (13.89) and shots on goal 6.78/game led by Seth Mahlmeister who leads the Horizon League in each category with 3.67 and 2.00 per game respectively.
 
The Golden Grizzlies have been impressive in the all-time series against PFW, recording an 8-1-1 record with the lone loss dating back to 2012.
