ROCHESTER, Mich. – Frankie Mudd netted her third goal of the year as the Oakland women's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw against Robert Morris Thursday afternoon from the Grizz Dome for its Kick Cancer Away game.
Due to inclement weather, the Golden Grizzlies (3-5-5, 1-1-3 HL) moved the game indoors from the Oakland Soccer Field to the Grizz Dome on campus.
After both teams entered halftime deadlocked at 0-0, Robert Morris (9-2-3, 3-2-1 HL) struck first in the second half with a goal from Renae Mohrbacher at the 52:54 mark, her seventh goal of the season.
Despite Oakland possessing the ball for nearly 70 percent of the game, it wasn't until the 74' minute the Golden Grizzlies got on the board. After an Oakland cross from
Olivia Darnell, Mudd was able to perfectly control a deflection off a RMU defender to find the back of the net in the upper left corner to even the game back out at 1-1.
The Golden Grizzlies were able to get a few quality chances in the remaining minutes but were unable to convert.
Freshman
Julia Zangerl played all 90 minutes in goal, recording four saves on the day. Oakland was able to hold RMU to just one goal on the day despite the Colonials scoring a Horizon League best, 31 goals on the year, good for 21st in the country.
The Golden Grizzlies will travel to Youngstown State to take on the Penguins Sunday, Oct. 8 at 1 p.m. from Farmers National Bank Field. Sunday's game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
