MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The Oakland volleyball team dropped its weekend opener to Robert Morris in four sets (17-25, 25-23, 21-25, 16-25) on Friday evening at the UMPC Events Center.
Anika Prisby led the Oakland offense with 11 kills on the night and hit .506.
Patti Cesarini finished close behind with nine, while
Ella Martin and
Gentry Brown chipped in eight. Setter
Rachel Rossman registered a team-high 25 assists, while
Sarah Turner had 14 assists of her own and two aces.
Robert Morris' (6-16, 3-8 HL) win over the Golden Grizzlies marks the first-ever win against Oakland and the Colonials second win in three matches.
Oakland (12-10, 6-4 HL) proved to be its own worst enemy, compiling 25 attacking errors compared to RMU's 16 and hit at just a .128 percent clip, while the Colonials registered a .306 hitting percentage. RMU had the edge in kills (61-46), assists (57-44), and blocks (18-11).
Emily Whichmann registered her 14th game of the year with 20-plus digs, recording 22 on the night.
Natalie Stepanovich recoded a double-double for RMU tallying a game-high 23 kills and chipping in 14 digs.
The Golden Grizzlies will head to Youngstown State Saturday to round out the weekend as the Penguins look to snap a four-game losing streak. Saturday's match is set to begin at 6 p.m. from the Beeghly Center.
