Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Jordan Nelson

Men's Soccer Falls Short to Louisville on Senior Day

Rochester, Mich - The Golden Grizzlies weren't able to secure a Senior Day victory, losing 4-0 to Louisville.

With the lights shining bright, Oakland marched onto the field with confidence taking on a tough ACC opponent in Louisville. Throughout the first half the game was even in many ways as both teams had good opportunities to score, missing by slim margins on several go-for-goal chances.

In the 38' minute, Louisville sophomore Damien Barker John broke the deadlock with a well-played shot off a heady assist byredshirt sophomore Parker Forbes to give Louisville the 1-0 lead headed into the half.

Louisville came out of the half with energy, and that was enough to put Oakland away. Louisville sophomore Konstantinos Georgallides knocked in a shot in the 51' minute, stretching the Cardinals' lead to 2-0. Barker John would show why he is a top scorer in the ACC, as he struck again in the 82' minute, and redshirt senior Brandon McManus would hit the final goal of the game shortly after in the 85' minute to seal the visiting team's victory.

Oakland was aggressive and never showed signs of falling back. Graduate student and team-leading goal scorer Mikey Ketteman kept his foot on the pedal, sending off four shots as he tried to spark a Golden Grizzlies comeback. Louisville's possession control just showed to be too much, halting Oakland's chance at victory in the second half.

Oakland was without several key players due to injury, including their second leading goal scorer Owen Smith, who's offense was missed in this game.

"During this time of the year every team is battling injuries, but when you play a top quality opponent like Louisville, you're going to have to convert on your chances," said Oakland Head Coach Eric Pogue. "I thought in the first and second half we had quality opportunities and we didn't finish our chances... Tonight just wasn't our night in that regard. We had a lot of good looks and if we put those in i think it's a little bit of a different game."

Pogue emphasized rest, restart, and recovery as the team moves forward onto their next game, a road test against Robert Morris on Saturday, Oct. 21 at noon.
