Men’s Soccer Returns Home to Take on Wright State for Alumni Day

Rochester, Mich - After a road loss to Western Michigan on Thursday, The Golden Grizzlies are set to host Horizon League opponent Wright State on Saturday.

This inter-league matchup has a huge postseason potential. Oakland currently sits in third place in Horizon League standings with a 3-2 record in conference play, while WSU sits in a five-way tie for fourth place.

Oakland looks to reignite their offensive spark behind fifth year forward Mikey Ketteman, who is having a standout season in the scoring column, ranking second in the Horizon League in goals scored (6).

With a win, Oakland would create a cushion between them and a fourth place team, potentially even passing Purdue Fort Wayne (6-4-1, 3-2 HL) and securing second place in the conference.

With a loss, the Golden Grizzlies could slip a few spots down the rankings and lose their third place spot, which as of right now would earn them a first round bye in the Horizon League Championship.

Oakland is riding a hot streak against WSU, notching a home win (1-0) almost exactly a year ago today, and a road win (3-2) in October of 2021.

SCOUTING THE RAIDERS

WSU sits just below Oakland in the Horizon League standings, stuck in a tie for fourth place as the postseason approaches.

Coming off a 0-1 non-league loss to Bellarmine, the Raiders are also looking for a clutch win in their return to conference play.

Goalkeeper Alessandro Malterer looks to anchor down in goal. The WSU sophomore ranks second in the Horizon League in total shutouts with three on the season.
