Hall of Honor Feature | John Nemens (MXC + MTF)

ROCHESTER, Mich. – A three-time individual winner and 13th on the Oakland University men's cross country all-time 10K list with his 1993 time of 32:03, John Nemens will be part of the six-member 32nd Annual Hollie L. Lepley Hall of Honor Induction Ceremony.

Competing in two seasons for Oakland, then known as the Pioneers, from 1992-93, Nemens earned All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) honors and All-Great Lakes Region nods from the NCAA in both campaigns, making him one of just five runners in the illustrious history of the program to receive All-Region recognition twice.

Helping Oakland to consecutive GLIAC runner-up finishes in his two years on-campus, the middle of his three victories, the Chris Yanni Memorial Invite at Lake Superior State University on September 4, 1993, was a new course record and he wrapped up his collegiate career with eight top-10 individual finishes.

The longest-tenured assistant coach in the history of Oakland University, Nemens has worked with the Golden Grizzly men's and women's cross country and track programs for the last 24 seasons alongside head coach Paul Rice, who was inducted into the Hollie L. Lepley Hall of Honor in 2022.

Outside of all he has done and continues to do for Oakland, Nemens was a Detroit Police Officer in the 13th Precinct for 21 years before retiring in 2016. He has also run 13 marathons since graduating, including the Boston Marathon three times.

Held at the Auburn Hills Marriott Pontiac, this year's induction ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, February 4 at 6 p.m. Tickets to the induction ceremony, which include admission to the men's basketball game the same day against the Cleveland State Vikings at 1 p.m., can be purchased here for $100 per person.
