Oakland Swim and Dive Conquer Night One of Weekend Home Meet

ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Oakland Men's and Women's Swim and Dive team completed the first day of competition back home in the Oakland Aquatic Center resulting in a number of remarkable victorious finishes for the night until they return back to the pool tomorrow morning at 10:00 am.

Kicking it off for the night was the women's 200 medley A relay team consisting of Susan LaGrand, Taylor Bailey, Sophia Davis, and Ronja Riihinen making a first-place finish with a time of (1:43.85). On the flip side, the men's C relay team with Luis Fernando Oliveira, Kieron Bezuidenhout, Dane Herrick, and Valance Washington jumped in to complete the 200 medley relay, (in heat one), with a first-place finishing time of (1.34.67). Heat two consisted of Oakland's A team stringed together by swimmers Marko Khotynetskyi, Christian Bart, Sofus Balladone, and Sam McKenzie who touched in at a time of (1.29.04) to secure another early first-place finish for the Golden Grizzlies.

The 1000-yard freestyle was claimed by Oakland's Jonas Cantrell as he swam in at a speedy time of (9:31.55), and notably, Angelina Baker took third with a time of (10:33.67). Cantrell later dominated the 500-yard freestyle coming in ahead of his competition with an impressive time of (4:36.40).

Speeding things back up in the pool, Oakland took the title for the 100-yard backstroke across the board with LaGrand roping in the win for the women with a time of (55.04) and Khotynetskyi taking the win for the men with a time of (48.41). Not only this, but the two would then continue on bring in two more first-place wins, individually, in the men's and women's 200-yard backstroke events with times of (2:01.44, LaGrand) and (1:48.82, Khotynetskyi). Additionally, LaGrand stacked another first place win with her time in the 200-yard IM (2:04.63). 

The 50-yard freestyle titles were swiped by Golden Grizzlies Jordyn Shipps as she swam in at a time of (23.92) for first place, and Bart grabbed the first place slot for the men punching in a final time of (20.45) in the water. Extending to the 100-yard freestyle, Oakland upheld their winning position as McKenzie claimed his first place time of (44.90), and for the women, Shipps tallied her second freestyle win with a final time of (51.95). Shipps also took home the gold in the 100-yard butterfly with a final time of (55.51). 

Notably, graduate student Taylor Bailey earned her first-place title in the women's 200-yard breaststroke with a final time of (2:18.11), with Oakland's Bella Gary right behind her in second place at (2:23.06). 

The diving team wrapped up day one with victories from Victoria Sanders in the women's one-meter diving contest with a final score of (257.20), and Ellie Chalifoux with a final score of (253.15) taking the first two slots on the leaderboard for the weekend. 

Oakland wrapped up night one with the 400-yard medley relay competition and they took both titles under their wings with first-place finishes from both the men's and women's A relay teams (3:30.24, women), and (3:02.21, men).

The Golden Grizzlies return back to the pool tomorrow morning at 10:00 am to complete the remainder of the competition.
