Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | David Gibson

Townsend Records Third 30-Point Game in Fifth-Straight Win

ROCHESTER, Mich. – On Thursday evening, Oakland University Men's Basketball brought the crowd at the Athletics Center O'rena to its feet with its fifth-straight #HLMBB win over Robert Morris 69-65 behind Trey Townsend's third 30-point game of the season.

A perfect 13-0 run started the game behind Blake Lampman's three three-pointers sandwiching in-the-paint baskets by Jalen Moore and Keaton Hervey before the Colonials would chip away at the lead.

The Golden Grizzlies would attempt to keep visiting Robert Morris at bay behind an 11-point lead as Townsend would bank nine first-half points en route to yet another career night by the Oxford native.

Starting at the 8:34 mark, RMU cruised as Oakland's scoring stalled with the only two points coming from Townsend's free throws all the way to the 4:00 point of the first half with the Colonials now up by two.

Lampman once again sank a crucial triple shot from deep to regain the edge as the break at halftime loomed with Oakland now back up by five with 50 seconds to go as the Colonials' Khaliel Spear sank a last-second shot that bounced around the iron and in.

Both teams came out of the locker room with horns colliding at the O'rena with Townsend, a dunk by Hervey, and Lampman securing points that would only have the Golden Grizzlies up by one to three points, if not tied.

With 6:26 remaining, Robert Morris regained the lead for the first time in the second half before two-straight layups in as many possessions by Hervey and Townsend would steal it right back. A four-point play off a foul by RMU gritted the teeth of spectators in Rochester as the Colonials looked up at the scoreboard up by two at 65-63 with 1:36 remaining.

A dunk by Townsend would send the crowd into a frenzy to knot things up once again as 65-65 where the junior was sent to the line twice to bag four points at the charity stripe to secure the victory and the team's fifth-straight win.

Lampman would finish the night with 18 points and a 6-12 (50%) three-point shooting mark while Townsend as mentioned above grabbing his third 30-point game this season with a 10-19 field goal record on the evening.

Oakland dramatically reduced the Colonials' hot shooting from the first half to 38.24% (25-63) from the field, 4-16 (25%) from deep.

This is the fourth-straight win over Robert Morris as the series moves to 8-1 in favor of Oakland.
