Oakland Drops Nail-Biter Against Wake Forest

ROCHESTER, Mich. – On Sunday, the Oakland University Women's Soccer team lost to Wake Forest 1-0 in a tough 90 minutes battle on the OU Soccer Field.

Oakland attacked the net with four shots and one shot on goal during the course of the game. Goal attempts came from players Sydney Grodsinsky, Sami Lopez, Alexa Sabbagh, and Allie Tefend. Oakland was hungry for the ball on the field and continued to attack the ball and gain a good chunk of possession against Wake Forest.

The Golden Grizzlies competitively defended the field to keep a scoreless first half for the Demon Deacs. Oakland goalkeeper Noëmi Stadelmann was tested at the net as she totaled four saves as she covered the full 90 minutes on the field.

However, at the 77:53 mark of the second half, Wake Forest's Olivia Stowell had an opportunity to score and sneaked a goal into the net earning the only goal of the game that would ultimately give Wake Forest the win against Oakland.

Inside The Numbers:
  • The Golden Grizzlies had more saves than the Demon Deacons (4-1)
  • Stadelmann defended the net with nine shots faced and only one allowed
  • Sami Lopez leads Oakland with shots on goal during the game
  • Oakland totaled four shots with four different players

The Golden Grizzlies will continue on the road at Michigan State on Thursday, September 8 at 7:00 pm.
