Heated Chile Pepper XC Festival Yields Season Bests for OUXC

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – In a heated Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival race, the Oakland University Men's and Women's XC teams took away season best marks Friday evening at Agri Park.

Yami Albrecht returned to the top for the Oakland men in the 8,000 kilometer race distance, finishing in 27th overall in 24:29.0, the fastest time by any Golden Grizzly this season by well over a minute.

Following in 77th was Adam Jesse in 25:07.1 and Adam Hill in 25:14.3 in 93rd, respectively, as the two paced Christian Collis and Trey Plichta who came across the line in 114th and 146th to round out scorers for Oakland.

Grace Nolan continued to clock in times that put her first across for the Golden Grizzlies as the women returned to the 5,000 kilometer distance since September 2 as the junior posted a 48th-place time of 17:43.8.

Rachel Kempf followed up with a 74th-place performance in 18:04.8, slightly ahead of Maryam Sheena in 84th with a mark of 18:12.6. Two final harriers scored for Oakland in Brooke Hinkelman and Erin Hegarty as the pair clocked in 100th and 108th-place performances, respectively.

Both teams would go on to finish 12th overall out of 33 teams on the men's side and 31 on the women's. Host Arkansas would sweep both team titles with Southern Miss threatening on the women's scoreboard while Colby Community College finished in second in the men's race.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • This is Nolan third-straight team-leading performance, Albrecht's second overall
  • Albrecht broke 25:00 for the first time this season by any Golden Grizzly
  • Both teams rounded out the day with a season-best team average in both races with 25:12 in the men's 8K and 18:10 in the women's 5K
  • This is the first time since September 2 to where the women raced a 5K distance
  • Interesting tidbit: with the Arkansas women's team title, it is the tenth-straight victory made by the Razorbacks at the Chile Pepper XC Festival

The Golden Grizzlies will be back in action for the Bradley Pink Classic on Friday, October 14.
