Oakland Concludes Kent State Invite with 2-1 Mark

KENT, Ohio. – Oakland University Volleyball took two 3-0 sweeps of Southern Indiana and Cornell at the Kent State Invitational on Friday.

SET ONE // OAKLAND 15, KENT STATE 25
The Golden Grizzlies would find themselves down early in the final game of the event as the Golden Flash would go on a 8-3 run in the middle of the frame as Oakland was not able to climb back in the leadoff and would fall 25-15.

SET TWO // OAKLAND 21, KENT STATE 25
Oakland would rebound to start set two as a Jessica Riedl kill gave OU its first lead of the game before the two teams would exchange blows going into the latter part of the set. Libby Gentile would spark an effort that would bring the Golden Grizzlies back within striking distance before KSU finished things off.

SET THREE // OAKLAND 25, KENT STATE 23
The third set would start and end in Oakland's favor behind kills by Patti Cesarini and Anika Prisby as the Golden Grizzlies would not be able to put away Kent State soundly as the Golden Flashes were always within a few points away from stealing the lead. With the set point in hand at 24-20, KSU threw in a three-point streak before an attacking error would bring relief as the first set point for OU.

SET FOUR // OAKLAND 18, KENT STATE 25
A 3-0 start for Oakland from Cesarini was not enough to stave off the hosts, going on a 8-0 streak following the Golden Grizzlies' start as OU would never recover. Riedl and Gentile would put some kills on the hardwood but the game would end at 25-18.
