ROCHESTER, Mich. – Oakland University Men's Soccer finished the exhibition stretch of the 2022 schedule with a 2-0 loss to Akron on Friday night.
"Another top quality opponent in Akron on the road which is what we are going to face on Thursday night to open regular season in Omaha versus Creighton, so it was a good dress rehearsal from that perspective," said Head Coach
Eric Pogue.
The Golden Grizzlies brought in 18 players and put up a combined eight shots. Gabriel Baylon, Dawsun Schrum, and Zach Townsend each recorded a shot on goal that forced three saves out of the Zips' goalkeepers.
"We have struggled to score goals so far, which we knew would be difficult for us after the loss of some key guys to graduation and injuries but we have created enough chances to find goals versus Akron and Ohio State but we just haven't had the end product thus far and eventually the dam breaks against top quality opponents," said Pogue.
Between the posts, Finn Jurak made two saves in 90 minutes of play, both in the second half.
"All our focus now shifts to Creighton as we embrace that challenge and feel as prepared as we can be after eleven days on the field to compete toe-to-toe with one of the top soccer programs in the nation in one of the best college soccer stadiums in the United States," said Pogue.
The regular season will get under way on Thursday, August 25 at 7:30 p.m. ET in Omaha, Nebraska as the Golden Grizzlies will open the year with Creighton on the road.
