Favero Signs Contract Extension

ROCHESTER, Mich. – Oakland University Director of Athletics Steve Waterfield has announced the contract extension of Women's Soccer Head Coach Juan Pablo Favero through the 2026 season.

"I am very happy that JuanPa will continue to lead the Oakland University women's soccer program.  Since I started at OU, I have been impressed with the program's upward trajectory and JuanPa's multifaceted approach to student-athlete athletic, academic, and personal development," said Waterfield, "With the 2022 season just having started, I am excited to see what the program accomplishes this year and beyond under JuanPa's leadership."

Favero, who has led the Golden Grizzlies since 2017, is coming off a 2021 season in which the team mounted a 9-1-1 Horizon League record with a 11-9-1 overall mark to hit back-to-back winning seasons for the first time since 2012-13.

"I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to continue to lead the Oakland women's soccer program. Signing another contract extension is a vote of confidence in our work, and I want to thank Steve Waterfield for his support and belief in what we are doing as we keep leading the program forward," said Favero, "Oakland is a fantastic university and being part of such a successful athletic department is very rewarding. I am blessed to work with excellent administrators, helpful colleagues, and incredible student-athletes."

17 women's soccer student-athletes found themselves on the Horizon League Fall Honor Roll while Kendra Zak and Sammi Lopez earned All-Region honors, the former of the two also found herself on the NCAA Division I Women's Scholar All-Region Second Team. As a whole, Oakland continued its streak of garnering United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Awards for the 12th-straight year.

"The first five years of my tenure have been both challenging and rewarding, and I am very proud of the work and effort all the coaches and players have put into place the program back at a championship level. I can't wait to see what the future holds for our program this season and in future years," said Favero.
