Sampson Makes Ghana U-20 National Team Roster

ROCHESTER, Mich. – Oakland University Women's Soccer's own Sharon Sampson has been selected to compete in the FIFA U-20 World Cup for the Ghana U-20 National Team.

"We continue to be grateful for these types of opportunities that our players are maximizing.  These experiences enhance their level play and also elevate the profile of our program and university," said Oakland Head Coach Juan Pablo Favero.

The 2022 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup begins August 7-28 in Costa Rica as Sampson and The Black Princess of Ghana will play their group games in Alajuela Morera Soto in the city of Alajuela.

"This is literally a once in a lifetime opportunity in a player's career and we are all proud of Sharon," said Favero.

Ghana has been selected to play in Group D with Japan, the Netherlands, and USA. Sharon and her team's first match is against America before doing battle with Japan and, finally, the Netherlands in the final day of group play on August 17.

"I know all Golden Grizzlies are rooting for her all the way as she represents Ghana and in the World Cup stage," said Favero.
