JONES THRIVES AT THE PLATE AS GOLDEN GRIZZLIES SPLIT VERSUS GREEN BAY

GREEN BAY, Wis. – Oakland University Softball split a double header on the road Friday afternoon against Green Bay as the title race for the Horizon League regular season heats up in the final weekend of regular season play.

GAME ONE

Off the first pitch of the day, Madison Jones brought in herself for an RBI in the team's first inside-the-park home run this season to go up 1-0 over Green Bay before the broadcast had even started. Cammie Brummitt would then single to left, reaching second off a throwing error by shortstop and to third off Jen Krizka's single, the third hit of the first inning for OU.

Brummitt would then score off a throwing error by the pitcher, the second of the day for the Phoenix, as the Golden Grizzlies held a 2-0 lead after one. Shannon Carr was struck by a pitch to start off the second inning before Jones came up to bat and brought in her first double of the day for the RBI and the 3-0 lead.

The Phoenix would just not have an answer in the first game, Allisa DiPrima got an RBI off her single to left field bringing Munson home at 4-0 with neither team scoring until the top of the seventh with the Golden Grizzlies coming up to bat again.

Brummitt would smack a leadoff double to right center, advancing off a wild pitch as Lauren Griffith was walked. A sacrifice fly by Krizka would get Brummitt back to the dugout ahead of Maci Brown's fielder's choice which moved Griffith over by an error from the UWGB pitcher as Carr would bring in both RBI for the 7-0 lead and, eventually, the win.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS
  • Jones goes 3-5 with two RBI and a homer to her credit as Brummitt puts up 2-4
  • Carr's single in the seventh inning brought in two RBI
  • Sydney Campbell is now 19-7 on the year allowing nine hits and recording seven strikeouts
GAME TWO

Jones would start off the second game just as well as the first only a base short. The Romeo native recorded her first triple of the season as Brummitt's sacrifice fly would bring her across for the 1-0 lead in game two.

Green Bay would then answer with a grand slam in the bottom of the frame where the score would hold for the next two innings. In the top of the fourth, Brummitt bombed a leadoff solo home run over left field, her fifth of the season, as the game would then stall at 2-4 in favor of Green Bay.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Phoenix tacked on three more runs and went perfect on stolen bases to command a 7-2 lead. Jones would then homer to center field to try and anchor the lead back down to four runs before one more score was recorded by the home green and red in the bottom of the frame as the game would eventually end in a 8-3 loss for Oakland.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS
  • Brummitt went a perfect 2-2 in game two as Jones would go 2-3
  • In both games, Jones recorded two home runs, a triple, a double, and a single for the cycle over two games
  • Mia Konyvka will be credited with the loss, falling to 3-7 this season
