OAKLAND SPLITS DOUBLE HEADER WITH IUPUI

ROCHESTER, Mich. – Oakland University Softball split a midweek double header on Wednesday with a six inning win and an eight inning loss to IUPUI at the Oakland Softball Field with the regular season conclusion looming.

GAME ONE

Sydney Campbell would shut out the Jaguars off the bat as the Oakland defense would force the visiting reds to go three up and three down before a big inning would ensue for the Golden Grizzlies.

Cammie Brummitt singled through the left side, getting to second by a walk to get Lauren Griffith on first. Jen Krizka would then do what she does best and double to left field to bring Brummitt across for the RBI and the 1-0 lead. Jessie Munson would single up the middle for another RBI as Griffith would score.

Krizka easily jogged across home plate following an attempt to get Muson out on a stolen base that proved futile. A third, and final, RBI was put in the scorebook by Allisa DiPrima on a single to second base as Oakland went to the dugout following the first stanza with a 4-0 advantage.

The game cruised along until the bottom of the fifth as Madison Jones singled through the left side, scoring off an error by the Jags as Griffith's double would bring another unearned run across in Brummitt in the 6-0 edge.

In the bottom of the sixth, Munson would walk which set up DiPrima's double down the left field line for the RBI as Jones would mirror the same as Arieanna Grammatico would reach home to prop up the mercy rule win in six innings 8-0.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS
  • Jones went 2-4 from the plate as both DiPrima and Krizka went 2-3
  • DiPrima would lead the team in RBI at two
  • Campbell improves to 18-7 on the year with two strikeouts
GAME TWO

Up the the fourth inning both teams would stall on offense, completely opposite of the first game, while the Jaguars poked two across and led by a 2-0 score through most of the second game.

The Golden Grizzlies would manage to get a few hits here and there but their offensive attempts would be squandered by double plays, pop ups, and occasional strikeout. In the bottom of the seventh, DiPrima would triple to right field to kick things off as Madi Herrington would get an RBI single down the left field line to make things 2-1.

Shannon Carr reached on an error by the catcher following a bunt attempt, reaching second off the throw while Harrington positioned herself at third base with Griffith up to bat. A wild pitch would squeeze by the leather of the Jaguars' catcher's glove to bring Harrington home for the tying score and Carr over to third. As Griffith would walk, a pop up and an excellent on the run line out to the short stop's glove would send the game into extra innings.

IUPUI would get  runners on in the first three batters of the eighth, getting a run in the process to lead 3-2 with the Golden Grizzlies going back up to bat. Munson's single to right field would lift spirits but the following two pop ups and a fly out to left would dash those hopes.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS
  • DiPrima finishes the second game 2-4 while Herrington got an RBI in a 1-3 plate appearance
  • Oakland and Robert Morris are now tied atop the Horizon League at 16-6 in conference play headed into the final weekend of play
Oakland will wrap up the regular season with a three-game series against the Phoenix in Green Bay May 6-7.
