SOFTBALL CELEBRATES SENIOR DAY, DROPS DOUBLE HEADER

ROCHESTER, Mich. – Oakland University Softball falls to 15-5 in Horizon League play following two losses to wrap up the weekend series at home on Saturday to Robert Morris as the team celebrated seven seniors for their accomplishments in a Golden Grizzlies uniform.

GAME ONE

Both teams would start three-up-and-three-down to fire off the first of two games on Saturday following the team's senior day ceremony of seven student-athletes. It would remain tight in the scoring column for a while prior to the top of the third as the Colonials would start off with a single down the left field line.

From there, Robert Morris would pile on three runs to tack on one more in the fourth as the Golden Grizzlies would have no answer. With a zero in the hits spot for Oakland, Cammie Brummitt would break up the no-hitter for RMU but OU would get nothing more out of its battery for the 4-0 first game loss.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Golden Grizzlies drop its first home game of the season
  • Brummitt would get Oakland's only hit
  • Sydney Campbell would fall to 17-7 on the year
GAME TWO

The first two innings of the second game would be much of the same as the two top-tier teams in the Horizon League would go back-and-forth until the top of the third again as the Colonials as a bunt would get a runner on base and the ensuing double would get the RBI for the 1-0 lead after two and a half innings of play.

Allisa DiPrima would bomb a solo home run in the bottom of the same frame to blast her first-ever collegiate homer over left center to tie things up at 1-1.

It would remain tied until a triple in the top of the fifth would bring around an RBI as the top of the sixth would be fruitful for the visiting Colonials in RBI doubles and singles to go up 5-1 over Oakland.
The game would get dramatic in the bottom of the seventh as Jen Krizka singled to start off the stanza, advancing to second off Maci Brown's rocket up the middle as both baserunners would advance off a walk to load the bases. DiPrima would once again come through and bring around two runners with two outs. Unfortunately, the late rally for Oakland would falter behind a shallow pop up to first base.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS
  • Jessie Munson and DiPrima would go 2-3 from the plate as the latter of the two would record three RBI
  • DiPrima slammed her first career home run in a Golden Grizzlies uniform
  • Mia Konyvka is now 3-5 on the year in the circle
The Golden Grizzlies will host a double header for the last time of the 2022 campaign on Wednesday, April 4 at Noon when IUPUI comes to Rochester, Michigan.
