OAKLAND SHUTS OUT ROBERT MORRIS AT HOME

ROCHESTER, Mich. – Oakland University Softball held its own to shut out the Colonials of Robert Morris 6-0 in Rochester on Friday afternoon as the first part of a three-game series this weekend.

A leadoff single by the Colonials would be all the visiting second-place Horizon League team Robert Morris would conjure up in the top of the first as the thrill of the hit would be deflated from a Jen Krizka throw to Reese Ruhlman to catch the runner stealing.

Madison Jones would then come up to the plate in the bottom of the first, swinging and striking the first pitch she saw to put a single straight up the middle; advancing to second off a wild pitch then to third off a groundout before Lauren Griffith would get a RBI single to center to put the Golden Grizzlies up 1-0 early.

RMU would go three-up-and-three-down before Maci Brown would get a leadoff double in the second as part of OU's 10 hits in the game. Allisa DiPrima doubled up the middle for an RBI for the 2-0 lead as Oakland would end the day with four doubles.

The Colonials once again would hold in the third as the Golden Grizzlies would continue the streak of having runners in scoring position but would get nothing out of the third stanza. Robert Morris would go three-and-out once more, sending OU up to the plate as the big inning ensued.

Shannon Carr got a double down the right field line, advancing to third off a wild pitch as Jones would get her own double and grab an RBI as well as the redshirt senior would be brought home as well of Cammie Brummitt's RBI single to make it 4-0.

Two errors by Oakland in the fifth would not be enough for RMU as Krizka would get a hit and advance to second ahead of Brown's second triple of the year, the second overall for the team, to get an RBI as Brown would get the final run for Oakland off a throwing error by the Colonials.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS
  • Jones, Brown, and Griffith all go 2-3 at the plate with an RBI each
  • Brown now has the only two triples for Oakland through the year, the first coming against Michigan State
  • Sydney Campbell bagged six strikeouts and allowed three hits in 26 at bats
  • Four doubles is the second-most this season for Oakland (Five against PFW)
Both teams will meet again at the OU Softball Field on Saturday, April 30 for a double header starting at 1:00 p.m. with senior day ceremonies going on at noon.
